Tane Takeguchi

Tane Takeguchi, 103, of Holualoa died Nov. 10, 2013, at her home. Born July 20, 1910, in Fukuoka, Japan, she was a professional seamstress and member of Waiaha Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji, Fukuoka Kenjinkai and Ikebana.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at Kona Hongwanji in Kealakekua for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by son, Ray (Charlene) Takeguchi of Chatsworth, Calif.; daughters, Tomoe (Joseph) Nimori of Holualoa, Sumie (Arnold) Feldman of Mililani, Oahu, Elaine (Jerry) Hirata of Kailua-Kona, Lorraine (Roy) Teramoto of La Palma, Calif., Elsie Takeguchi of Citrus Heights, Calif.; sisters, Janet Uemura of Pearlridge, Oahu, Agnes Fukumoto of Kaloko; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Setsuyo Tanabe

Setsuyo “Sue” Tanabe, 87, of Hilo died Nov. 17, 2013, at her home. Born Oct. 31, 1926, in Hilo, she was a retired school secretary for the state Department of Education and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Buddhist Women’s Association and Gojikai, Anela Street Kumiai and Hawaii Government Employees Association.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 7 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, 398 Kilauea Ave., for a 10:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Ronald (Sharon) Tanabe of Hilo; daughters, JoAnn (Frederick) Wong of Pukalani, Maui, Gwen (Guy) Kimura of Hilo; brothers, Kwanichi Yuda and George (Kayleen) Yuda, both of Hilo, Shimei (Agnes) Yuda of Fullerton, Calif.; sister, Kay Murashige of Hilo; two grandsons; one great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Yukio Takeya

Yukio Takeya, 87, of Hilo died Nov. 12, 2013, in Japan. Born April 24, 1926, in Wailea, Maui, he was president of Ala Kai Realty, a retired mail carrier, a retired Army major and World War II veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hawaii Island Board of Realtors, Hawaii Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hawaii, Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, Japanese Community Association of Hawaii, Big Island Housing Foundation, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and Kumamoto Doshi Kai.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by son, Edmund (Sun) Takeya of Honolulu; daughter, Leona (Herbert) Chock of Honolulu; brothers, Toshio (Gladys) Takeya of Paauilo, Teruo (Misako) Takeya of San Francisco, Tom (Sandra) Takeya and Alan (Donna) Takeya, both of Hilo, Herbert (Janet) Takeya of Kalaheo, Kauai, Kenneth (Judy) Takeya of Honolulu; sisters, Gale Takeya and Myrtle (Arnold) Hara, both of Hilo; two grandsons; one great-grandson; four stepgrandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

JoAnn Courtney-Suttle

JoAnn M. Courtney-Suttle, 60, of Kurtistown died Nov. 24, 2013, at her home. Born Oct. 13, 1953, in Honolulu, she was the parish secretary, a religious education coordinator and member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mountain View.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 9 at St. Theresa Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at noon at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Ed Suttle; daughters, Martha-Ann (Cory) Aukai, Gabrielle Suttle, Amanda (Chris) O’Farrell; mother, Thelma Chung-Courtney; sister, Lynette (Tom) Noa; brother, Thomas (Renee) Courtney; five grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; two grandnieces.

Alexander Beckley

Alexander “Alex” Carden Beckley, 80, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 24, 2013, at his residence. Born March 10, 1933, in Honolulu, he was a retired City &County of Honolulu firefighter, former aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Corp. and member of Hope Chapel in Kailua-Kona.

Private services were held.

He is survived by son, Tracy (Roxanne) Beckley of Hilo; daughters, Carlene (Bryan) da Silva of Kealakekua, Cherie-Dee (Robert) Salsedo of Waikoloa, Shellese (Daniel) Guieb of Kailua-Kona; sister, Dian (Eugene) Freitas of Kailua, Oahu; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Renate Gassmann

Renate Eva-Maria Gassmann, 67, of Volcano died Nov. 18, 2013, at her home. Born in Germany, she was a retired veterinarian and member of numerous environmental and conservation organizations.

Private services will be held at a later date on Maui.

She is survived by son, Kai Duvall of Honolulu; daughter, Anna Duvall of Portland, Ore.; brother, Klaus Gassmann of Germany; sister, Helga Gassmann of Germany.
